Manga Diouf

Leeds United cartoon drawing utd senegal

There's no use trying to hide it any more... I'm starting to really like El Hadji Diouf.

(I made this at faceyourmanga.com. and added the details in trusty ol' Microsoft Paint!)

Corinthians: Michael Bridges

Leeds United

Loved Michael Bridges when we first signed him! Before he'd even kicked a ball for us, the fact that we'd beaten Spurs to his signature (I lived in Spurs country at that point) gave him an edge.

Then he started playing for us, and showing just how talented he was. It was rare that you saw him score a simple goal, and that's some achievement in a debut season containing 21.

Unfortunately, injuries pretty much ruined him after that, but I'll always look back on his contribution to the 1999-2000 season fondly.

I think my favourite Bridges goal was the Le Tissier-esque tee up and precise volley away at Southampton.

If you want to watch it, you can see it here.

New Jobs for Ken: Streetfighter

The way I see it, Ken may need to find a new job or hobby to keep busy once he leaves. You may see a few more possibilities on this blog from now on...

So near, so far season review dvd

If people are willing to pay this much for this DVD, why is it not in the club shop?!

(You guessed it; this is the one season review I don't own!)

Fifa '98 Ratings

In fairness, Sabah, of the Malaysian first division, were a bloody good side back in 1998...

LUFC Cluedo

When I was feeling particularly whimsical one day, the idea of Leeds United Cluedo struck me...

OK, to put it another way, when I was thinking of stupid photoshops that I could do, I remembered that we have loads of players with 'colour' surnames, and thought I could whip up some Cluedo pics. Here was the result:

Leeds UnitedLeeds United

Tragically White and Green were the only corresponding names. I thought of Alan Peacock, but remembered my own rule of respecting the sanctity of the Revie Era by doing no stupid photoshops. So what did I do next? I did what any self respecting loser would have done; I looked up Cluedo characters on Wiki.

And what hadn't I counted on?? Special editions of the game! So here we have:

Captain Brown
Leeds United
And Inspector Gray
Leeds UNited

And who is the Murder victim? Ken Bates, hopefully.

England's Number 1

Fantastic save by Nigel Martyn at Old Trafford in the League in 1998.

In honour of my degree result...

...here is a hastily thrown together and, somewhat self indulgent photo.

Sorry that the Leeds link is tenuous, but I've been waiting for this result since before the takeover was even mooted!

MotD's Leeds info

This is the Leeds section from my Match of the Day Guide to the clubs of England poster. I think it's from about 1999. It's still in reasonable nick, and has moved house 4 or 5 times!

It includes the original Wimbledon, as well as the likes of York and Scarborough, while Man City are marked as 'Nationwide Division 2".

My highlights where Leeds are concerned (other than the Premiership badge, obviously) are the £20 ticket price, and the 31st position in the food ranking! (Cambridge Utd were no. 1!)

Leeds/Preston XI

If I've been bored in the past (stuck in traffic, for example, or waiting for public transport) one of the things I've done to pass the time is to pick a team, and see if I can come up with a starting 11 of players that have played for them, and Leeds. Cos I'm cool like that.

The only rules that I have are that the player has to have played for both teams (obv) the formation has to be realistic, and finally, the players have to be more or less in the right position.

Anyway, in honour of the Preston Guild (!) here is my Leeds and Preston XI

Funnily enough, all of these players have played for both sides since I moved to Preston. A few of them (Cresswell, Healy, Lewis, Ricketts,) have scored for both, while Danny Pugh has scored for Leeds against Preston, and for Preston against Leeds.

... Healy is on the wing as a tribute to Kevin Blackwell.

Oh yeah, and Ridsdale could be chairman  : /

Lucas Radebe, 2002 World Cup

I'll be honest; I'd forgotten that the Chief even scored at the 2002 World Cup til I read his book.

Thanks to a bit of youtube searching, and a bit of 'how to make a gif' searching, here it is for your viewing pleasure!

Enjoy!

(Reason for this today is that it's an international weekend, and I noticed that South Africa are playing Brazil)

In honour of Tom Lees England U21s call-up:

Great news for Tom. Hopefully he'll learn from it, and improve without attracting the attention of Norwich City.

He's certainly come a long way since Football Manager 2009!

You can understand why I usually shipped him off to Guiseley or Farsley Celtic, right?!

The Purpose

So, yeah, this is blog number 3! And as has become tradition, I thought I'd outline what I'm planning on doing in a post called 'The Purpose'.

One of my favourite websites is Howson Is Now. I look at it pretty much every day. The description you see above (Leeds United based whimsy) could very well be applied to Howson Is Now.

Some of my submissions have been published on there, and, as I started to enjoy creating things for it more and more, I started to think; why not make my own site, instead of constantly having to submit my ideas to someone else's.

And so Strachan has Stricken was born! It will be my place for posting any Leeds based quirkiness that takes my fancy, from... well I don't even know what. I dare say it will evolve as I go along. The one thing I can promise you is terrible photoshops galore!

And so to begin, here is a video from which this blog takes its title: I give you 'Strachan' by The Hitchers.
