Corinthian [Repaint]: Terry Cooper

As you may have gathered, I've gone and got myself a little bit obsessed with Corinthian figures

I've been systematically buying Leeds ones to fill the gaps in my existing collection since September, but I recently discovered something else...

As if I wasn't cool enough already, I have now started repainting them; and here is my first finished model.

World Cup Medals: Madeley

From the 1970 Esso England Medal collection.

Paul Madeley was called up to the squad to replace his injured team mate, Paul Reaney.

However, having made family commitments, and fearing that he would be omitted anyway when the initial 'pool' was trimmed down to the final 22 man squad, Madeley turned down the call up.

He won his first England cap in 1971.

Pixel Replay: Smith vs Anderlecht

Brilliant team goal scored by Smith in the Champions league in 2001

Whatever you think about Alan Smith, this goal against Anderlecht was sheer brilliance. Fantastic pass and move, and a beautiful lofted finish!

This goal was recreated by Pixel Replay, who can also be found on facebook

They have made a couple of other Leeds goals, and often take requests on their facebook page. If you have a goal you'd like to see recreated, give them a 'Like'!

The Roque Horror Picture Show!

Roque Junior Leeds united loan spell rocky horror photoshop

Funnily enough, the phrase 'Roque horror show' could be used to describe most of his performances for us.

In spite of all the contenders since, he is still the first name on many Leeds fans' lips when talking about crap loanees.

Our squad must have used another door...

Just saw this on WACCOE:

...I would assume that none of our current players could use this entrance with a clear conscience!

Crap Loanees as Pro Wrestlers #8

Ugo Ehi-HOG

Calling Ehiogu a crap loanee is maybe a little harsh. He was one of a bunch of signings that Wise made in late 06/ early 07 that you looked at and thought: "He's a brilliant signing... if it's actually 1999." (The others were Flo and Alan Thompson!)

His performances were mixed; according to Phil Hay, on his debut the defence were 'calm and organised' (no mean feat in the 06/07 side) and he scored in his next game against Barnsley.

However, he scored an own goal, and was involved in a defensive mix up for another in a 3-1 defeat at Stoke.

Ultimately, he left after just 6 games, admitting that he didn't have the fitness to play 2 games in a week. Maybe more of a 'mediocre loan' than a crap one.

Smith vs Southampton

Smith's Cruyff turn goal for Leeds United against southampton on the opening day of the 2001-2002 season

Who remembers when the BBC website used to do 'goal of the day' gifs?!

(You can watch the goal here, tho I'm not sure why you'd need to with such a marvellous graphic!)

BBC match graphics

The strange kit shapes the bbc used back in the mid 90s for leeds utds FA cup 5th round replay at vale park. Gary mcallister grabbed 2 goals in a 2-1 win to set up a tie with Liverpool

Who remembers these bizarrely shaped bad-boys?!

Rumour has it they were based on the body shape of Robert Molenaar.

Summer 1996... with Corinthians

Wilko's 4 new signings to transform Leeds United!

To be fair to him, two of them were quite good... I'll leave you to decide which 2.

Incidentally, the Bowyer Corinthian (2nd from the left) is generally thought of as one of the worst likenesses they produced!

He was re-sculpted a couple of years later, and they came up with this:

That Wolves game

programme from the infamous wolverhampton wanderers vs leeds united game in 1972. Leeds were forced to play just 2 days after the FA Cup Final, and were missing the injured MIck Jones.

Given the massive discussion about it on WACCOE the other night, and the fact that we are playing Wolves tomorrow, I thought I'd post this; the back of the programme from one of our most infamous games.

I didn't attend the game (not being alive at the time) but this came into my possession, along with a load of other old Leeds programmes a while back.

Things I find interesting about this programme are the goalscorers added, and the fact that Jones has been crossed out and replaced with Bates.

Leeds/Cardiff XI

A second post of the day!

Apparently, Leeds and Cardiff don't share midfielders, so this ambitious 4-1-5 formation (complete with Mighty Ducks 'Flying V' attack) was the best I could do.

A real mixture of abilities included, with one of our best ever players, John Charles, at the back, and none other than Michael Ricketts as the spearhead upfront.

Habibou info...

So, what is known about new signing Habib Habibou?

Wiki tells us that he's 25; he's had a few clubs around Europe; he's scored a reasonably promising 20 goals in 57 games for Zulte Waregem...

But more importantly, he once threw a duck over the advertising hoardings after it wandered onto the pitch in a game.
