The Next big thing...

Fifteen years ago to the day, my dad took me to my first ever away game, for my 13th Birthday. A good, sturdy Graham-esque 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

In the latter stages of the game, one of our forwards was replaced by Lee Matthews. The mere minutes that I saw were enough to convince 13 year old me that he was the next big thing! I even edited him on to Fifa '98.

He played for us 2 more times.

This pic came from the Oz Whites LUFC History page.

Varney Stinson

How I met your mother leeds united mash up!

After an awesome goal against Spurs!

...

I still have a picture of him as Barney the dinosaur up my sleeve for when he returns to form.

Leeds/ Spurs XI

A starting line-up that played for both leeds utd and tottenham hotspur.

Another 'XIs' post!

Again, having Rose in their is a bit of a cheat, he as he never played for the first team.

There are also a few loanees who may as well have never played for us; Adam Smith, Jake Livermore and Andros 'The Forehead' Townsend.

Thinking about it, Korsten screwed us over too, and there is an ongoing WACCOE debate about Woodgate!

There are a few good'uns in there tho!

Becchio

Will be absolutely gutted if he goes, though I can't say I blame him. The new owners have plenty work to do.

Leeds/ Bradford XI

Taylor is Charlie Taylor, young left back, who I believe Bradford tried to ruin by playing in midfield during his loan spell.

I also realise that having Singh in their is a bit of a cheat, as he never played a first team game for us, but then I thought, it's my blog, I'll do what I want!

(I realise it's a bit soon to have another XIs post, but thought that, if Bradford don't win, then there may not ever be occasion to post this again.)

Warnock's tactics?

So, after attending Saturday's game, I decided to look on Fifa 96, to see if I could suss out Neil Warnock's tactics.

Ok, so realistically, 1996 is far too modern, and relevant for Warnock, but it's the oldest version I have.

Anyway, I concluded that we are either using this:

or this:

It's hard to decide which.

Leeds African XI

In honour of the Cup of Nations starting today, here is a Leeds African XI:

Radebe, Sa, Sodje, Marques, diouf, olembe, gradel, johanneson, masinga, yeboah, somma

Subs: Showunmi, Kandol, Faye, Sakho.

Goalkeeper proved to be a bit of a problem, but I'm sure the one I've selected would perform well!

Gradel is tucked into central midfield because, really, who would you rather drop, Gradel, Johanneson, Diouf, or Amdy "I'd forgotten he played for us" Faye?!

I think this definitely goes to show that, with one notable exception (who I've actually put in goal!) our attacking African players have definitely been better than the defenders!

In case you were wondering, the XI, and listed subs contain players from South Africa, Mozambique, Nigeria, Angola, Senegal, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana and DR Congo.

Lookalikes: Jon Douglas

New occasional feature... yes, I know this kind of thing has been done loads of times before, but hopefully, I'll come up with at least one or two interesting ones.

So without further ado, Jonny Douglas and his doppelgänger:

Kinky?!

Kinky kinki Leeds United utd trial 2003 2004 relegation season

Had completely forgotten about this: Kinkladze's trial in the 03/04 season. He played a few reserve games to... erm... prove his fitness.

A sign of what was to come: ie he was the first of many Has-Beens coming in on trials, short term deals or loans.

Crap Loanees as Pro Wrestlers #7

Dino (Raul) Bravo:

I think the problem with Raul Bravo, as is the case with quite a few of the crap loanees, is the expectation that came with his arrival.

Touted as a hot prospect from Real Madrid, he figured in just 5 games in his 6 month loan spell. We lost 4 of them.

Magic of the FA Cup.

Every picture tells a story, as the saying goes. Well, here are 3 pictures that contribute to the same story, regarding yesterday's FA Cup tie:

Here's the coach park, just before 2pm:

January 3rd Word Cloud

Leeds United vs Manchester United Man Utd FA Cup 1-0 January third 2010 3-1-10

Two things that I particularly like about this word cloud are how much bigger 'Leeds' is than 'Manchester', and how much bigger 'Beckford' is than 'Rooney'.

The report I used to make it can be found here.

Authority

I realise that maybe I should have posted this sooner... but to anyone wondering what authority I have to be posting on a Leeds United themed blog every day; I am an official supporter.

Leeds Utd 1990s nineties Yorkshire rose badge

Not just anyone can get hold of a massive badge like this, you know... though that may be because it's from the mid 90s.

Simpsonized Warnock

Neil Warnock Leeds United Utd as a Simpsons Character cartoon

Well Neil, this is your month. Now that Bates has at least partially sodded off, it's time for you to start delivering that 'team to be proud of' that you promised.
